Transformation by Elisabeth Jessen
‘Till Generation is swallowd up in Regeneration’: Blake’s conversion books.

This talk will introduce and discuss Blake’s books as ‘conversion books’ (where conversion is understood as an open-ended and non-dogmatic spiritual transformation). Using a broad perspective it will point out places of ‘conversion’ both in text and images throughout Blake’s works – all the way from The Marriage to the late Job and Bunyan illustrations – and discuss the role they play within the different narratives.

Elisabeth Jessen has a MA in Theology from the University of Copenhagen and is now completing a D.Phil on Blake at The Queen’s College, Oxford. In 2009 she published a monograph on biblical motifs in Blake.
