Illustrations of the Book of Job: A Talk by Andrew Solomon

As a work of art, Blake’s set of Illustrations of the Book of Job is one of his finest achievements. Yet it departs from the biblical story in order to illustrate the theme which becomes central to his late & mature work, namely ‘Man’s Fall into Division and his Resurrection to Unity’. His purpose is to show us the way to pass beyond the ‘fallen’ state of conflict between desire and duty and to find inward peace and contentment. Andrew Solomon has published two books on Blake: Blake’s Job and William Blake’s Great Task, a study of Jerusalem.
