Inspiration.
Blake saw a treefull of angels at Peckham Rye,
And his hands could lay hold on the tiger’s terrible heart.
Blake knew how deep is Hell, and Heaven how high,
And could build the universe from one tiny part.

Grant me an old man’s frenzy,
Myself I must remake
Till I am Timon and Lear
Or that William Blake
Who beat upon the wall
Till Truth obeyed his call.

Beulah, peel me a grape.

The Saison Poetry Library at the South Bank Centre is currently hosting an exhibition of mosaics based on William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and of Experience, created to celebrate the 250th anniversary of his birth. Blake spent part of his life in Lambeth, & these mosaics, created by local people, are one strand of the William Blake Heritage Project. This project aims to develop a shared understanding of Blake’s work in the local community, & is run by Southbank Mosaics in partnership with Southbank Sinfonia & the Futures Theatre Company
