Exuberance is Beauty
Memorial Lecture for Peter Cadogan, a past Chairman of the Blake Society, to be given by Tim Heath, the present Chair.
For 11 years Peter Cadogan was the General Secretary of the South Place Ethical Society that was founded in 1793 as a dissenting congregation and evolved to become the leading humanist organisation in Britain. This spiritual journey began by rejecting the doctrine of Hell, then the Trinity, and finally God.
Tim will talk about how Blake adopted a deliberate policy of Exuberance to escape the Mind Forg’d Manacles we create to imprison ourselves, and in particular, how this practice of Exuberance generated some of Blake’s most famous imagery.
The lecture will be held at The South Place Ethical Society, Conway Hall, 25 Red Lion Square, London WC1R 4RL at 11am.
